    OdySea Aquarium

Located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, near Scottsdale, AZ, OdySea Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Southwest.

It is open 7 days a week and houses over 50 exhibits, 500 different species and 30,000 animals. OdySea’s unique circular design was developed to deliver an engaging experience and foster a sense of community. The project required a close collaboration between architect Deutsch Architecture Group, contractor AR Mays, and structural engineer Caruso Turley and Scott. Every part of the building was custom designed to showcase both fresh and salt water animals, and deliver an enhanced experience through interaction. It was literally built from the inside out. The animal habitats were placed first, and the structure was built around them. OdySea places the exhibits front and center. Its exterior walls include 72 concrete tilt wall panels, which are 60 feet high. The patterns on the exterior follow the journey of a raindrop falling from the sky to the river. The undulating walls replicate the rhythm of waves. Their movement illustrates how man should respect their power and celebrate their elemental necessity in the desert. In addition to the concrete walls, large aesthetic reveals representing Cattails are cut into adjacent Senergy Channeled Adhesive Design wall panels. The intricate detailing produced by the applicator, Apodaca Wall Systems, pays homage to the native Indian communities that harvested the unique flowering spike and flat blade for basket weaving. The geometric pattern replicates itself thought the field of the panels and highlights the plant that is found along the local river banks. The design elegantly is contextual to Arizona and supports the connection between the sky, ocean, rivers and earth.
